If you’re in pain, call us at 859-269-1000. We make room in our schedule for dental emergencies and can get you in today. Usually it can be a quick procedure to get you out of pain, and then we can talk about treating the root of the problem at a separate appointment.
Toothaches are a sign that something is wrong. It’s usually some type of tooth infection. When tooth decay goes deep enough, it gets into the pulp of the tooth. This can cause a nasty toothache. What happens in some cases is that this toothache goes away and the patient then thinks they are okay. But what is actually going on is that an infection inside a tooth always eventually causes the pulp of the tooth to die, which means that the pain will go away. But from there the infection spills out into the bone and spreads in the bone. Some time later, the patient’s face may start to swell, and this is when the infection can become dangerous. The earlier you catch these problems, the better.
Pain-Free Emergency Dental Appointments
We realize that many patients are in an emergency situation because they have avoided going to the dentist. We want to assure you there will be no judgment or lectures when you come in. Most patients avoid the dentist because of pain. Maybe they had a dentist who was a little rough with them, or some other traumatic experience with dental care. Dr. Arnold has a reputation for having a gentle touch and being great at pain-free treatments.
For some, a gentle hand isn’t enough—there’s too much anxiety. In those cases, we suggest sedation dentistry. Dr. Arnold uses oral conscious sedation. It is a strong sedative that allows you to go through your dental appointment completely relaxed and pain-free. Many patients won’t even remember the appointment. You can learn more about this procedure on our sedation dentistry page.
