Our office has a long history– and we’re quite proud of it! Did you know that Dr. Arnold is not the original owner?
Initially, the practice was started by Dr. Edward I. Scrivner Sr., sometime in the 1950s. He was a very well-regarded clinician and his son, Dr. E. I. Scrivner Jr., joined the practice in 1955. Both father and son graduated from the University of Louisville College of Dentistry. Dr. Scrivner Jr. happened to be a family friend of the Arnolds, so it was just natural that they would be patients of his. Dr. Arnold became a patient in 1973 since, at that time, they only accepted patients over the age of 14.
It was then that Dr. Arnold knew what he wanted– to practice dentistry. When Dr. E. I. Scrivner Jr. retired in the ’90s, Dr. Arnold stepped in and created the practice as we know it today.
While a lot in our practice has changed since then, it’s interesting to note that the important aspects of it, the ones that drew Dr. Arnold to it– have not changed all that much.
In-House Lab
Most notably, we have our own on-site in-house lab that allows us to make our own materials without outsourcing. The concept for our current in-house lab that creates gorgeous porcelain crowns and veneers, began in Dr. Scrivner’s tenure.
Most dental practices actually mail your cast, molds, and instructions to out-of-town laboratories who do not know you, to complete the creation of your porcelain veneers and crowns. Often times, the dentist doesn’t even know the particular technician who will be assigned to the case and won’t ever communicate directly with them, which can cause the quality to suffer. Beautiful porcelain work is a team effort that turns out best when the doctor and technician know each other well.
We’re extremely proud of our technician Mr. Michael T. Morris, CDT, FAACD. He’s accredited and fellowed by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). He is, in fact, one of only four Accredited Fellow laboratory technicians in the world!
Legacy
In the 1970s, Dr. Arnold shadowed Dr. Scrivner, Jr. on numerous occasions, and he also worked in the lab on a regular basis. Being there to see first-hand how patients would come from all over to have Dr. Scrivner save their teeth was impactful, to say the least, as was seeing and hearing about the patients in this special practice.
Dr. Arnold feels blessed to be a part of something bigger than himself, and he’s thrilled to be able to carry on the legacy of the practice started by Dr. Scrivner. If it’s been over six months since your last check-up, make your appointment today!
Ever since he was little Dr. J. Fred Arnold wanted to be a dentist. He has lived in Kentucky all of his life, except for three years he spent serving in the Air Force (1984-1987). He and his wife Holly have raised their family here and couldn’t imagine spending life anywhere else. They love the great schools and the emphasis on arts and culture.
