There are many different dental emergencies that can occur without warning, and in those cases– you’ll want to be seen by a dentist right away. If you’re ever in pain or have another dental related emergency– we’re always here to help. Usually, you’ll just need a quick procedure to get you out of pain, and then we can discuss any further treatment you might need.
Pain-Free Emergency Dental Appointments
We realize that many patients can end up in emergency situations because they have avoided coming to see us in the past, but we promise you there won’t be any judgment from us. Dr. Arnold has a reputation for having a gentle touch and being great at pain-free dental treatments.
Sedation Dentistry
If you’re still nervous, don’t be– we have a sedation option! We use oral conscious sedation, which is a strong sedative that allows you to go through your appointment totally relaxed and pain-free. If you suffer from dental anxiety, be sure to request this– you might not even remember your appointment when you’re done.
Types of Dental Emergencies
The most common types of dental emergencies are:
-Toothaches
Toothaches are usually a big sign that something’s wrong, and they can even be a symptom of tooth decay.
If a tooth is ever causing you pain, leaving it untreated can make it much worse. While tooth decay is often the primary cause of a toothache, it’s important for you to have a complete oral exam to determine the exact cause. It could also mean an infection or gum disease, and the only way to tell is by letting Dr. Arnold examine you.
-A Crown Or Bridge That Has Fallen Off
Crowns and bridges are bonded to your supporting teeth. On occasion, they can fall out, and in most cases, people don’t experience any discomfort. However, depending on the size of the crown or bridge, it can impact the way your mouth feels and works.
If you have a crown or bridge that falls out, you’ll want to save it and bring it with you to your appointment, in case it can be bonded back into place. We’ll check the structure of your supporting teeth to see if it’s strong enough to be put back in.
-A Tooth That’s Been Knocked Out
Next, if you ever knock out an adult tooth, get to us as soon as possible. A tooth that gets knocked out will begin to die after just 15 minutes. Try to avoid touching the root of the tooth, and put it in a glass of milk.
-Aesthetic Emergencies
A broken tooth is a perfect example of an aesthetic emergency. While you might not be in pain, we know you have places to go and people to see. You’re not going to want to wait to get such an obvious problem fixed. If you ever have a cosmetic emergency, we’re here to help.
-A Cracked Tooth
Finally, the treatment for a cracked tooth depends on the type, location, and extent of the crack. Symptoms include pain when chewing, or pain when your tooth is exposed to hot or cold.
If you have a cracked tooth, you need to seek treatment quickly– before the problem gets worse. Once treated, most cracked teeth will continue to function normally.
