Beat The Heat
It’s summer! When it’s too hot to be outside, it’s difficult to find fun things to do inside with your children. Luckily, we have some great indoor activities for you to try at home with your kiddos. They’re fun, educational– and all dental themed.
Brush Your Teeth Craft
Supplies:
-Off-white construction paper.
-White paint.
-An old toothbrush.
-A marker.
-White glitter.
-A paper plate.
-Scissors.
Directions:
1.) Draw a picture of a tooth on the construction paper and cut it out. By using an off-white color, your child will be able to see the difference between how their teeth look before and after they “brush” them.
2.) Pour the white paint onto a paper plate.
3.) Mix the white glitter into the paint.
4.) Use the toothbrush to “brush” the tooth with the paint and glitter.
This is a fun activity that shows your child how to cover the entire surface of their teeth when they brush. In addition, it teaches them brushing skills that will help them keep their pearly whites healthy and clean.
Happy/Sad Tooth Collage
Supplies:
-Scissors.
-Markers.
-Glue.
-Construction paper.
-Old magazines.
Directions:
1.) Have your child look through the magazines and cut out things that are good for their teeth, and things that are bad for them.
2.) Make one tooth “happy” and the other “sad” by drawing faces on them.
3.) Have them glue what they find to either the “happy” or the “sad” tooth.
We love this craft because it makes your kiddos think twice about what helps their teeth– and what damages them.
Paint
Supplies:
-Paper.
-Paint.
-An old toothbrush.
Directions:
Paint!
This simple craft puts a fun spin on an old favorite. Instead of having your kids use a paintbrush, have them use an old toothbrush. It helps them learn the brushing motion they should be using and mixes things up since it’s different than your standard paintbrush.
Learn To Floss
Supplies:
-Playdough.
-Large Lego Duplo block.
-Floss or a piece of string.
Directions:
1.) Place the play dough in between the buttons on the building blocks.
2.) Have your child use a piece of floss or string to remove all of the playdough from inside the crevices.
This is a wonderful motor activity for kids since it teaches them the flossing motion. It also mimics the way food gets stuck in their teeth and shows them how floss helps to remove it.
Apple Experiment
Supplies:
-An apple.
-Something to poke a hole in it the apple– a pencil works well.
Directions:
1.) Poke a hole in the apple.
2.) Let it sit for a few days so your child can observe how it starts to rot over time.
This apple experiment is a simple way to educate your kids about cavities. It imitates how a tiny hole in their teeth can badly decay.
Have Fun!
Have you tried any of these crafts? If so, what was your favorite? Do you have a favorite indoor craft that we should include on our next list? Let us know!
Ever since he was little Dr. J. Fred Arnold wanted to be a dentist. He has lived in Kentucky all of his life, except for three years he spent serving in the Air Force (1984-1987). He and his wife Holly have raised their family here and couldn’t imagine spending life anywhere else. They love the great schools and the emphasis on arts and culture.
